I decided a while ago I wanted a "Kroot Hound" to go with my Mechanicum Menials counts-as Kroot. I have one of the old Necromunda all-robot Cyber Mastiffs back in Austin, which my initial thought. But then... I had an opportunity to get one of the exclusive FW organic cyber-mastiff models, and I jumped on it. I ended up giving him a color scheme similar to an English Mastiff, and let the bloody, worn skin around his sutures and augments tie him in with the rest of the Menial unit. I gave him bright yellow eyes to give him a slightly more unnatural look.

WIP: Ichthys Rex, Baron of Knight Household Brightwood
Not super close to done yet, but you can see the general idea coming together. The design was almost entirely stolen by the ever-talented Sheep, over at Forlorn Hope. I am trying to source something nice for a shoulder mounted weapon. I was thinking of using a twin autocannon from a Contemptor, to make it reminiscent of the old Castellan Knight, but I really wish I had a heavy conversion beamer to use. I used the extra hands I had from my Thallax conversions for his little manipulator arms; I thought of having them hold something, but it didn't look right without the face inspecting it.
Stick em' up!

Icarian Thallax Cohort Zeta
So I got the Thallax unit all painted up and I am really happy with them. I used something similar to the Forgeworld scheme for them, with just a bit brassier metal colour. I went with some simplistic Mechanicus freehand on the launchers, to tie them into the Magos and Menials. I used the same white (Ulthuan Grey) as a spot colour on the missles themselves.

Magos Dominus & the new GW Technical Oxide
Got some of the new GW Technical Oxide paint to try out; certainly like how it turned out here on the Dominus. Something you could totally do with other paints with a bit more difficulty, but it is neat to have it come right out of the bottle this way; easy peasy. Followed the cues from FW and went with a wood grain for some of his equipment. He is just the perfect kind of crazy and I am getting so fond of my Mechanicus forces that I already am formulating plans for a little Knight Titan/ Cybernetica action...

WIP: Icarian Thallax Cohort and Magos Dominus
Next up on the Mechanicum front, some beefed up Thallax...
I have them extra recoil absorbing back legs, so they could theoretically stabilize.
They are also all magnetized to go on either 40mm, 50mm, or 60mm (shown) bases, depending on how I want to use them...

Mechanicum Menials
So I ordered some Mechanicum Thallax and a Magos Dominus to go with my White Scars. I usually have to play 40K rules, as opposed to the Heresy list, so that means using some 'counts-as' magic to field my lovely cyborgs. So that meant. no matter how I used them, I'd need to make a unit of Menials to act as an Allied Troop choice (not to mention this gave me a project to work on until my other, more exciting, units arrived). Enter Dark Vengenace Chaos Cultists.
I used a variety of backpacks and wire to get the look I wanted, as well as a few pairs of Scout Sniper optical arrays.
For the paint scheme, I shamelessly stole from Dave Taylor (as seen here), thanks Dave! The paint scheme definitely put them over the top for me, as far as 'un-chaos-ifying' them.

Da Scroggy Bukket Boyz
These are my bitz box built Meganobz. I have had them tucked away and built since the summer, but no time to paint them between school and commissions. But with my semester over I have some free time, so I am painting up them and their Battlewagon ride. All these models have a plastic Nob at their core, built up with various armour plates (and plasticard) and weapons.
This one is hilarious; he has a Sentinel foot for a foot and a Sentinel leg for an arm. His armour plates include Furioso dread gauntlets, a Necron Warrior back, and a servo arm back pack.
This one is the only one that is not technically WYSIWYG in terms of his power klaw, but I couldn't pass up the double clutch choppa. This one got a Sentinel exhaust housing.
I made this one like a miniature kan by chopping off his neck and putting a piece of the Ork Trukk turret on his shoulders. I then built his armour shell around that piece and gave him a nice optical from an actual Ork dread. He suffered a bit from lack of bits, and ended up with a CSM Heavy Bolter for a twin-linked shoota.
This one is one of my favorites, I think because of his mind-linked shoota turret and SM bike headlight groin armour.
This one is also a favorite. He really looks like the real thing, mostly because of his authentic gun arm.
Unpainted these models were a bit questionable, but with a nice finish they will certainly fit in with my other Ork forces

Deathwatch Kill Team Gamma
So I added a couple members to my mind shackled Death Watch Kill Team, for when I want to use three of my 'counts-as' Obliterators. You can see the original teams here. For these two, I went for an Iron Snake (because I love their Black Library book) and a Vigilator, who really ended up looking more like a GI Joe Marine... but that's okay. They are packing some serious firepower, including the ever-useful Combi-flamer-melta :)

Mind Shackle Zombies
So I have had these Zombie/Cultists as allies for my Necrons for almost a year, and the idea has always been that their nervous systems were controlled by Scarabs even after they died and started decomposing. Hence, Mind Shackle Zombies.
Recently I went back and visually reinforced the theme by adding some mini Scarabs to a selection of zombies, including both my unit Champions (from Corpse Cart zombies). I have been quite happy with how they look scattered throughout the units.

Brother Sven Tallstone, Deathwatch Kill-Marine
So this is my Juggernaut Chaos Lord for my Mind Shackled Deathwatch Counts-As Chaos allied force. I mixed the Thunderwolf Cavalry rider with some Grey Hunter and Forge World bits to get a suitably brutal looking champion. Instead of his Chapter icon, like most Deathwatch, Sven has kept his Great Company marking on his remaining should pad.

Predator 'Excubia'
The tank known as the 'Excubia' has had a long. unfortunate history. Originally part of the Lamenters chapter, the tank had its entire crew slaughtered while it was in route on the flagship Mater Lacrimarum, when it was attacked the the Minotaurs Chapter. After the Badab War, and with a new crew, 'Excubia' went on to gain repute against the monstrous creatures of Hive Fleet Kraken during the Lamenters penitent crusade.
On Devlan, the 'Excubia' and its crew caught the eye of Inquisitor Nasir, of the Ordo Xenos. The tank and its crew were seconded to the Inquisitors retinue, and painted in the colours of the Deathwatch. The crew despaired at leaving their chapter, and this feeling only grew as their Brothers went out of communication, and into the maw of Hive Fleet Kraken. The 'Excubia' went on to serve the Inquisitor for a number of years, until a mission to the planet known as Ib. What happened on that fateful planet is written about in other places, but suffice to say the Lamenters reputation for ill-fortune is well earned.
Most recently, the 'Excubia' has been seen at the vanguard of assaults lead by the Necron Overlord known as the 'Flesh King of Ib', though the tank itself has seen better days.
